Calories Extreme!

Someone mentioned that they went to the Cheesecake Factory the other day.


They said they bought a slice of cheesecake. 


I asked: “Was it the Oreo Cheesecake?”


They said, “yeah!”


But they went on, “It was too much for one person to eat.”


Uh, you think?  


Check out how many calories are in one piece of this “Oreo Dream Extreme Cheesecake” –>>1,630!


Yes, that’s one slice, not the whole cake!!!


And over 50% is from fat!


Take all this in context: 
The calories for an average female and male is just 1,900 and 2,500, respectively, if your moderately active. 


So one slice of cheesecake like this Oreo flavor is around 86% or 65% of the total recommended calorie intake for a women or man for the entire day!


What the heck do they put into this cheesecake–butter, cream cheese, sugar by the truckload!


I know it must be good, but does it also have to be this deadly! 😉

Doing It On One Leg

Always finding people with new and creative ways to work out (and torture their bodies).



The gentleman does the stairs on one leg…



Down not so bad (but keeping your balance probably a little challenging). 



Up, one after the other, pretty impressive. 



And he did this routine again and again.



The fitness craze is taking shape…hopefully eclipsing the sedentary and gross carb diets people have adopted over the years.



Carbs, as good as they may taste (although I think you don’t even really taste them as people shovel it in), should be banned or at least greatly limited as an addictive harmful substance.



And sitting all day at a desk, not what otherwise healthy people were meant to do, also big no-no.



We can’t let ourselves become a society of shlubs getting fat, tired, and unhealthy–it’s part of a trend of depressive and destructive personal and social behavior. 



I really think we need a Western fitness revolution–not body-worshiping–just a good healthy balanced lifestyle where we become planetary survivors again and not a bunch of virtual couch potatoes that want to make you puke. 😉

613 Calories

613 Exercise

So today I tested out a hypothesis about seeing 613. 


I tried to do it intentionally. 


I was getting my activity, and lo and behold, I see that I am at 612 calories burned so far. 


Oh, how cool–I can capture 613 in a another second or two. 


And I continue my activity looking intently at the Apple Watch monitor. 


Okay, 613 now!


No, now!


How about now? 


But it doesn’t come. 


I am waiting for it.


It can’t come on my terms.


Next thing I know, the calorie counter jumps from 612 to 616.


I can’t believe it. 


I couldn’t capture the 613 when I wanted to. 


Every other time so far has been–we’ll it’s just been. 


And maybe that’s the whole point. 😉

Letting It Out

We hit the boxing gym last night for a little tour. 


Guys and gals working out on the punching bags, mitts, and pads. 


It was great to see the energy–push ups, sits ups, weaving and jabbing, kicks, and more. 


They even had an Israeli self-defense class, taught by what I believe was a non-Israeli–that was a little strange.  


I asked one guy who looked like he’d been around the block there, if he was one of the instructors, and he told me how he’s been boxing for 30 years. 


Curious, I said “What did you do before boxing?” He said, “Fighting! I’ve been fighting my entire life.”


Anyway, whoever is laying around the house in front of the boob tube day and night–you need to get out and try some moving and shaking. 


Great stuff, and right in the mold of my role model, Rocky!  😉

Can You Just Stop And Think?

Think

So oddly, one thing that many people these days find really hard to do is STOP AND THINK.


What do I mean?


Be alone, do nothing, and just take the time to be with yourself and think.


–without your smartphone, television, music, game, or even a book. 


Just you, the four walls, and your brain…thinking, thinking, thinking.


Feeling a little jittery, scared yet. 


Why are people afraid to stop and think? 


Is it because within the thinking is some craziness, fear, anxiety, and even remorse?


Are there overwhelming feelings and thoughts about issues, events, people, and places that are unresolved and painful. 


Also, by ourselves and in our thoughts, we can realize how weak, vulnerable, and mortal we are. 


If we are here in our own heads, maybe no one will even notice we are gone or maybe no one will even miss us–maybe they’ll replace us?


We’re so easily ditched, replaceable, just another character in a long cast of characters.


When we stop and think, do we worry about all the other things we’re not doing or getting done…perhaps, we don’t have the time to think, because we need to be doing, doing, doing. 


And if we’re not moving forward doing something, then we are being left behind!


But doesn’t thinking lead to more purposeful doing?


A little upfront thinking and planning, maybe can save you some serious time wasted just acting out. 


Somehow, like a prisoner in isolation though too much alone time with your own thoughts is enough to drive anyone crazy, docile, and ready to behave just to get out, interact with other human beings, and doing something.


We need to stay active, not be bored, so we don’t think too much.


When I was in the hospital recently, one orderly named Kelvin, saw me sitting there by myself thinking, and he said to me, “Oh no, you don’t want to have too much time to think. Block those thoughts out of your mind. Why don’t you watch some TV?”  


Smart Kelvin. 😉

Fascinating piece in the Wall Street Journal about going to mock prison to get away from the stresses of life.

Ok, so you know your working too hard, when your only escape is to lock yourself up and throw away the key for a few days.

In South Korea, where they work 18% more than on average (2090 hours per year vs. 1765)–their is a great need to get away from it all.

There where life satisfaction rates a 4.3 out of 10, which is 34% lower than the average (of 6.6), putting yourself in prison is a quality of life thing.

A two-night stay in the makeshift prison for extreme relaxation costs $146–and there you can meditate to your hearts delight.

You can also attend “spiritual classes” and participate in “healing plays.”

Normally smartphones wouldn’t be allowed, but people freak out without them, so they get to check them once a day while on the inside.

Being locked behind bars is a punishment in most places, but here its time to think, reflect, and get back to yourself–most of all you don’t have to go to work on those days.

It’s funny, but one of the hardest things is generally for people just to stop and think–really stop and think–it’s much easier to drown ourselves in endless activity and never have to deal with what’s going on inside.

When we stop to let our thoughts catch up, to deal with our anxieties and fears, to confront ourselves and all the mistakes we make, and to let ourselves feel what can be an tidal wave of pent up feelings–that is a freedom that few can bear to make. 😉
