Choosing Good Over Vice

Please see my new article in The Times of Israel, called “Choosing Good Over Vice.”

But yet, if everyone would just act out on each other based on their unbridled wants and desires, oy vey what a truly terrible world that would be…From uncontrolled desires for food, drugs, alcohol, gambling, honor, money, power, sex, and more–it seems like everyone has their little secret fetish. Whether it’s coming from their head, their heart, or down below…the key questions is how much can they control themselves.

However, inside us, our soul, like the Ten Commandments in the Holy Ark, guide us so that we aren’t just animals chasing game or tail, but are human beings trying to become angels.

Greatest Museum of Them All

Museum of Bible.jpeg

So the greatest museum of them all is scheduled to open in just 3 months!

The Museum of the Bible.

Right here in Washington, D.C.–a few blocks from the Capitol.

There is a wonderful video on their website

It’s 430,000 square feet and 8 stories floors.

With two 40-feet-high bronze doors that look like the Ten Commandments.

And an overall tall and narrow shape with a curved roof that reminds me of Noah’s Ark.

It encompasses:

Religion.

History.

Art.

It all comes together here.

There is an interesting display of all the different versions of the Bible.

But what it all points to is how similar we all really are.

The emergence of faith in The One G-d who created us all–his children–and the foundation in the words of His book.

Yes, we share in common much more than what separates us.

If we can just see ourselves in His eyes and be the people we can be and were meant to be.

The museum should be an inspiration to be better, to be brothers, to have peace, to partner and progress to the future.

With our faith sustaining us, and the Bible and our conscience as our guides, we can overcome. 😉

Know Before Whom You Stand

The Real Super.jpeg

So this was one of those amazing types of photos–like a one in a million.

It was taken in Synagogue in front of the aron (ark) where the Holy Torahs are kept.

On Sabbath and holidays, after services, devout people often go up to the doors of the ark to say a personal and silent prayer of devotion getting up close to the Torahs (G-d’s sacred words to us).

What you’ll see here is that someone is dressed (for Purim) as Superwoman.

The juxtaposition of Superwoman to the Holy ark is accentuated by the words above the ark, which translated from the Hebrew states:

“Know before whom you stand.”

A cautionary note and reminder that before the ark, we are literally standing before the presence of G-d (and to conduct ourselves with the utmost respect and propriety)

So in this picture, we have Superwoman standing before G-d, the most super of them all!

When I think of how minuscule we as human beings are before our Maker, it is magnified for me that even the most super of human beings infinitely pales when standing in front of the majesty and omnipotence of our L-rd.

Superman and Superwoman prostrate yourselves before Hashem, even as we all must do. 😉

Great Balls Of The Apocalypse

So the Chinese have invented an amazing life-saving device for whenever a great life-threatening catastrophe strikes.

Rather than an ark, this lifeboat is a giant ball of steel, concrete, and fiberglass–two layers thick and weighing four tons–they are advertised as waterproof, fireproof, iceproof, shockproof and they stand upright and float in water.

In case of a tsunami, earthquake, shipwreck, or other major crisis, these can be you lifepod to safety.

CNN reports that they can hold 14 people (video says up to 30 people) and can store food, water, and oxygen for two months.

The pods also have a propeller for the craft and seatbelts for your added safety–should things get a little rough on the water of Armaggedon.

The inventor says the next generation survival pod will be made of stronger steel and have more comfort gadgets–although, I imagine he can’t mean a flat screen TV. 😉
