Story About Dressing Modestly

One of my good friends told me a funny story.

The friend of his daughter was wearing one of those cropped shirts which expose the belly.

She said that her dad told her to throw a party for her clothes, so that her shirt could meet her shorts.

I guess all dads worry about the modesty of their daughters.

This was a good tznius story that hammers home the point and is also pretty funny. 😉

Celebrating The Holidays

This holiday outfit has got to win an award. 


The matching suit and tie with all the decorative holiday ornaments. 


The bright red shirt. 


The tree hat with the star on top.


And the dark glasses. 


Wow, standout city!


Where do you get clothing like this?

I wonder if I could do this with a menorah too. LOL

Superhero Dress

This dress was a standout. 

Superhero dress by D&G. 

Comic style with the pow and bam!

I don’t get the pig superhero logo on the ugly green jacket and other similar merchandise next to it. 

Uh, who wants to wear and look like a pig?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  

D&G is off the deep end. 😉

Sometimes You Just Want To Say…

It funny, sometimes you just want to say…


Exactly what this ladies shirt says. 


My father used to say when certain people were nasty to him, he would just be nice to them.


And when they would still be really nasty to him then imperceptibly, quietly under his breath, he would say “F*** You.”


Ah, maybe not always so imperceptibly. LOL


Sure, we can’t always just come out and say it like this lady does boldly on her shirt.


Maybe it doesn’t help to use expletives, but sometimes some people can be such jerks that just saying it quietly is cathartic and truth-telling. 


Perhaps more important, saying it let’s you know that you still have  a moral compass and personal integrity, even if others around you have seriously compromised on theirs. :-)

Cash Is King

This was a funny shirt this lady was wearing on the Metro. 


It mimics the Sweet ‘N Low artificial sweetener logo and says:

Fund R’ Low
Need a Sugar Daddy


This was one of those shirts that gets your attention. 


It’s different.  It plays off a familiar brand.  It bright pink, red, and blue and stands out.  And it could certainly have a sexual connotation.  


Anyway, this was a pretty bold shirt to wear into conservative Washington, D.C. 


But I guess wherever you go, fashion, sexuality, and cash is king. 😉

Selling By Customer Stereotypes

Saw this displayed on the wall inside a Free People clothing store…


It categorizes their female shoppers into 4 types:


1. Candy (hearts): Sweet, girly, flirty, whimsy, and femme  


2. Ginger (cherries): Sexy, confident, edgy, attitude, and mysterious


3. Lou (baseball): Cool, tomboy, laid back, tough, minimal


4. Meadow (sunshine): Flowy, bohemian, embellished, pattern, worldly


So this is how they stereotype their customers “to be helpful”?


Interesting also that they don’t see that people can be complex with: multiple traits that cross categories or even in no category at all.


Moreover, people can have different sides to themselves and reflect these in different situations. 


Perhaps in an effort to market and sell more, what they’ve done is reduce people to these lowest common denominator of idiot categories.


And what makes this worse yet is that it seems to be based just on snap judgment of how someone looks coming into the store and all the biases that entails. 


How about we look at people a little more sophisticated than this and treat them as individuals, with real personalities, and not just as another empty label?  😉

Sizing Fashion And More

So it was interesting article in the Wall Street Journal today…


There is an obesity problem in the U.S. 


But the statistics in terms of the typical sizes of fashion (for women) has been “largely” overlooked.


The biggest size most fashion brands even bother to sell is: 12


“Only 7% of womenswear stocked at multi-brand retailers is a size 14 or above.”


But the average American dress size is between between 16 and 18!


The typical runway model is size 2.  


BTW, I think men have the same problem with sizing.


There was another thing about measurement in the WSJ today having to do with measuring time. 


Day is measured by the earth rotation (on its axis). 


Year by the rotation around the sun.


Month by rotation of the moon. 


Earth, Sun, and Moon…give us time. 


Now we need to take all the wonderful time we have measured and not spend it all eating.  😉
