Why Can’t People Be Genuine

Why all the phonies, users, shysters, and scammers out there?

It starts perhaps with that big, warm smile.

Maybe a handshake and hug.

Perhaps, you even get a kiss or two (it’s cultural, I think, LOL).

Colleagues, friends, you’re just like family.

Sometimes it’s real and you truly found something valuable in your life.

There are good people of soul and conscience out there.

But other times it’s an act, a sham, deception, you’re the fool.

The other person wants something–cash, control, connections.

Oh by the way, can I ask you for just a “little” favor?

You wouldn’t mind if…?

Just do XYZ for me, I got your back.

I see you know so and so, would you introduce me?

I have a great investment opportunity for you, let me tell you all about it.

Sure it’s okay and actually wonderful in a real relationship for people to be there for each other and help each others…“that’s what [real] friends are for!”

The problem is where the friendship is only about the ask for the benefit of the other and no care for you as a person.

Then the smile isn’t a genuine collegial or friendship one of happiness and outreach. but rather it’s upside down to get you to do something legit or illegit for the person pressing their lips up and out into that smile you already know is all about the ask. 😉

Helmet Head

So happy Friday funday.

We work hard during the week, right.

Today in the office, we replaced some old metal clunker garbage cans with some new clean plastic ones.

The old ones, every time you threw a bottle or anything hard out, it made a crazy loud banging noise disrupting everyone.

I started to joke with my colleagues that the dirty, heavy old cans were more useful as a helmet in case of emergency evacuation of something.

So today the old metal junk cans got a happy face helmet head and a prestigious place next to the office plants.

Everyone had a good hearty laugh!

Honestly, it’s wonderful to be incredibly productive and accomplish a lot for the people, the mission, and all the stakeholders, and at the same time know how to have some fun and make people happy.

Good for morale and good for teamwork!  😉

It’s About The People

The older (not that old) that I get, the more I realize that life and success is all about the people.

Whether it’s our families, friends, and colleagues–it’s how we treat people and the relationships we form that count–and that enable us to achieve success together!

Many people just count their money instead of counting their blessings of hearts and souls.

But while we certainly need a certain amount of $$$ to live, we really need ❤ to thrive.

Today, before the Thanksgiving holiday, I just took a little time to walk around and talk with people here, thank them for their good work and friendships, and wish them a good holiday.

It was such a little thing, but honestly I felt so good doing it.

I am thankful for so many things this year, including all the wonderful people in my life who do so much to make my life joyous and fulfilling, but I am also grateful to G-d for continuing to open my eyes to what and who(s) that really count.

His And Hers

Cards For Dad and Mom
So grateful to my wonderful colleagues and friends here at the Department of State.

Cards for the loss of my mom and dad…one year apart, but I put them side by side, where they belong.

I miss my parents, but this is a beautiful reminder to me that they are together in Heaven!

I am thankful for the wonderful caring people I am surrounded with who provided me their support and warm sentiments during this challenging year.

Hoping for G-d’s blessings and a better future.
