Together 4Ever

In elementary school, the children sing about love and romance.

“The spades go.
Two lips together.
Twilight forever.
Bring back my love to me.”

When 2 people are together, it’s as if the angels in heaven themselves are dancing and singing.

Love seems to make everything in the world right again.

Recently, an old person from my building lost his wife of over 60 years!

I see him around and while he continues to go about doing his everyday things, I can see that he misses his wife so much.

He is broken, and his strength is gone.

I remember my grandfather and father the same way when they lost my grandmother and mother, respectively.

Completely devastating to them–their wives were their lives and what made them complete– afterward, they were never really the same.

Our companions are truly our other halves.

When someone asked the old man from my building how he was doing late last week, he simply responded:

“I’m getting along the best that I can.”

He said it was such sadness and loneliness for his wife who passed that his words literally cut right through me.

People need each other–no one is an island–and especially loving couples who have been together for decades and decades–they are for each other and with each other, even if “together forever” is just a song that children sing…it is what we all ultimately wish for. 😉

Dog Days of Summer

Dog1.jpegDog2.jpeg

Nice promotion at Whole Foods.

They take a photo of your Doggie.

People were lining up for it.

Another lady was there sharing her artist dog portraits.

They were some pretty impressive pooches.

Man’s best friend is often not another person, but a dog.

And if you know some of the people out there, it’s no wonder. 😉

Young Love

Young Love.jpeg

So I took this photo of a painting in a home furnishings store.

Just something really striking about it to me.

The way the women is leaning into the man and his head/face leans into hers.

Their focus on the drawing or plans in front of them, where he seems to be sketching out their future together.

Also, their hands touching and almost clasped.

Young love is beautiful.

When people find each other, by some miracle of G-d.

And the chemistry magically makes 2 people like 1.

The look they give each other, when their hopes and dreams converge.

Best friends, companions, lovers with the potential to grow ever mightier over time.

Life not without obstacles that the couple must overcome, supporting each other.

Building a home, raising a family, making a future together come true.

When the minds meet, the hearts yearn for each other, and the souls join.

What a time of joy and blessing…a time to live for and to continue the generations forward and build that which cannot be completed by any man alone. 😉

Celebrating International Women’s Day

Men
Just want to recognize all the wonderful women who have touched my life:

My beautiful wife and daughters.

Also my beloved mother and grandmothers A’H.

As well as friends and colleagues.

I still remember the saying I used to hear growing up that girls are “sugar and spice and everything nice!”

In the bible, women are men’s “ezer kenegdo” literally translated as helpmates, and figuratively as companions.

There is a nice Jewish teaching that the word “kenegdo” has a double meaning that if a man is good then the women stands as his aide, but if he is bad that she stands against him–so men have to merit the love and kindness of their wives, and not just expect it, dutifully.

An interesting article written by Melvin Konner in the Wall Street Journal says that with women taking over more and more leadership roles in the workplace and in politics, the world will be a better place!

What served men well in a hunter-gather society–the male testosterone-driven biology–prepares men well for physical aggression, reproduction, and dominance, but also leads to overreaction to small threats, exaggerated violence, and recklessness that has brought “war, corruption, and scandal.”

However, in the current information technology society that we now live in, men’s physical strength and prowess is largely obsolete replaced by machines, robots, and drones. And women’s emancipation and rise to positions of power has led to situations where saner heads and compromise prevail, and as Senator Susan Collins (Maine) said:

“While male colleagues cross their arms and sulked, women crossed the aisles with phone calls, emails, and social media.”

From my experience, women can actually be the fiercer gender (testosterone or not), and a wise man does not mess with them! 😉

Just Two Pelicans Doing Their Thing

Today, we walked over to the pier and there were these two pelicans sitting there.

They let us walk right up to them and sit down on a stoop next to them–maybe two feet away only,

It was nice just sitting with Rebecca and watching these birds: they were scratching, clucking, shivering, dancing, taking in their surroundings, and wandering away together.

Felt really at peace and happy by the water, doing something so simple and basic.

In a way just wanted this time to last forever. 😉
