Diversity Necessitates Respect

Sarsour.jpeg

So this was an interesting photo taken of a sticker hung in front/near the Capitol reflecting pool in Washington, D.C.

It is one of the faces of the resistance, and while it’s not Linda Sarsour, it reminds me of her–she is the one who garnered wide attention at the 2017 Women’s March not long ago.

Remember her rant of “Sisters and Brothers!”–whose sister is she anyway?

With her polarizing politics, support for Sharia Law and anti-Zionist rants and support for the BDS movement, she certainly is not mine.

Note: An Israeli official even came out yesterday with like concerns about her.

Here are some of Sarsour’s alleged sayings about Sharia Law–or is this more a complete embrace?

While I greatly believe in diversity and strongly adhere to valuing and respecting all good people out there…

There is something that feels wrong here.

Generic images like the top photo with the traditional Muslim hair covering–again, I respect this.

It is overlaid with the American Flag–again nothing wrong with that–Jews wear yarmulkes with the flag too.

But look further now…underneath it states:

“We The People

are greater than fear”

Hmm…We the people–who is the “we” here?

Is this a group photo of Christians, Jews, Muslims, Atheists, etc.–so where is the inclusivity?

With Sarsour insertion of a Sharia ideology into American politics, perhaps, there is a subtle–or not so subtle–attack on our greater American freedom and democracy going on here.

Sharia law is being spread around the globe by:

Decree (think of the Mullahs in Iran)

Terror (think ISIS and Al-Qaeda)

Sympathy (think of the Palestinians)

Mass immigration (think of the changing cultural face of Europe), and

Expropriating other people’s causes (such as Democracy and freedom and so called justice with Linda Sarsour).

Everyone is entitled to their peaceful beliefs, especially when there is a ethos of  mutual respect and a truthful recognition and acceptance for everyone of “Live and let live!”

But when the bounds are trampled by those who want to see only “their way or the highway”…then we need to seriously fear–who are “We the people”–and what do they really want? 😉

Today Is 6/13

613.jpeg

So today is 6/13.

Yes, check your calendar.

It only comes once a year.

613 is the mystical and holy number of commandments in the Torah.

For more than 2 years (this is not a short-term phenomenon), my family and even some friends have been seeing an inexplicable number of 613 everywhere.

Here is one from a stock I follow from the other week: Twitter was up exactly 6.13%…and I don’t follow that many stocks.

Just yesterday, another stock (that been doing terribly…it’s a startup!) is down an enormous 61.3% since I started following it.

And yet another major stock–of the largest company in Israel and the largest generic pharmaceutical company in the world–Teva–is down 16.03 year-to-date.

Nearly every day, we see an endless barrage of license plates, roads, train and plane schedules and physical or URL addresses, get purchase receipts or invoice totals, see number of posts, views, likes, or emails, and even the other day almost booked a hotel with the address….that’s right and only 613!

I am a rational person…maybe almost to the extreme, and what I initially laughed off as a lark or someone’s OCD thing, is beyond any reasonable explanation that I can fathom at this point.

I am left with faith that there is truly some message being sent from the One Above…the question is what is the meaning of the message?

I continue to hope and pray that the message is one of blessings and redemption for mankind…I hope you will join me in this prayer. 😉

Escalator Pile-Up

Escalator.JPEG

So this was really funny at the Metro escalator.

There was a huge double line of people coming down the escalator heading to the trains.

Everything is moving swiftly like clockwork.

Decend, decend, decend…step off and move to the right or left track for the next train.

But then…

One person, steps off and instead of moving left or right, they stop to try and figure out which side their train is coming from.

So all the people behind them coming down and off the escalator are blocked by the one “bumbling idiot” and they start stumbling into him with no place to go, and more and more people coming down end up in the human pile.

You could almost hear the people getting to the end of the escalator yelling: “Get out of the way!”

It was crazy and sort of hilarious–as no one was hurt, but the system isn’t built to give a person pause at the bottom.

The people just keep coming and coming–where’s the emergency break? 🙂

Escalating Iranian Threat To World Peace

Iran is spreading it’s caliphate ambitions across the Middle from Iran to Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen and more.

As the #1 world sponsor of terrorism and abuser of human rights, there is reason to be concerned and afraid of Iran’s intentions and actions.

The ISIS terror and caliphate may end up paling in comparison to the threat of a dangerous fundamentalist Iran with emerging nukes, ballistic missiles, and a fearsome spreading caliphate of their own.

Now Iran conveniently claims that radiological material, Iridium, was stolen, and where it ends up exploding no one yet knows, but we can guess the likely targets.

What wonderful plausible deniability for a suitcase WMD bomb horrifically placed and detonated by Iran, themselves.

As Israel is burning, Aleppo is being flattened, Mosul fighting is raging street by street, and terrorists are plotting ever greater strikes into our heartlands, we are sitting here dumb and dumber.

Please G-d, he will restore peace to our lands and people.

May He grant our leaders the wisdom to act as necessary, with due speed and agility to defeat our enemies whether ISIS or Iran and not be fooled by agreements not worth the ridiculous paper they are written on.

Telling The Next Guy

Boxing.jpeg

This was one for the books today.

Obama tells Trump that he needs to stand up to Putin (i.e. don’t wimp out)!

Uh, who’s the guy who has been in office the last 8 years?

An during those years, our standing and national security has suffered from disengagement and utter weakness at virtually every turn of the globe.

– We let red lines be violated in Syria and watched our Ambassador murdered in Libya

– Russia expanded into Georgia, Ukraine, and Syria, and now it’s looking to Cuba and Vietnam.

– China has been rapidly militarizing into the South China Sea and expanding it’s economic influence in Africa.

– We made the “worst deal in history” in Iran that allows them to eventually go nuclear!

North Korea continues to expand it’s nuclear arsenal and ballistic missile technology.

– The Philippines told the President to “go to h*ll” and threatens to break from the U.S. militarily.

– U.S. backed off support for democracy in Egypt after the military coup that overthrew Morsi

Venezuela expelled our top diplomat and 2 other embassy officials ratcheting up hostilities with the U.S.

Cyberattacks have plagued the U.S. and we haven’t been able to defend ourselves.

ISIS has demonstrated success and our strategy has not made them less dangerous and lethal.

– After years of mounting terrorism, our leaders still refuse to even say the words, “radical Islam.”

I’m not sure why people are so tempted to give advice and preach to others, when they themselves have so many failings.

I think it’s certainly okay to humbly share our experiences and lessons learned if we have any.

But perhaps when you don’t have the best record on something, as they old saying goes, you should refrain from throwing large stones in your very fragile glass houses!

DC Metro Is In Shambles

DC Metro.jpeg

So the latest this week from the crumbling infrastructure of the DC Metro train system, not withstanding the mess of Operation SafeTrack.

While riding this morning, a large panel inside the train abruptly and widely swings open and smashes against the fabricated white and plastic wall adjacent to the seats.

It made a loud bang and initially everyone on the train looked up with the deer in the headlights stare apparently thinking it was a gunshot on the train or something.

Luckily, no one was in the 2 seats where the panel swung open like that, because their would’ve been some physical damage done to somebody there.

The age and decrepitness of the train obvious from the incident and also looking at what’s behind door #1!

What is amazing is that this is the Capital of the United States, one of the wealthiest and most powerful nations on Earth.

We spend lavishly abroad and domestically on wasteful pork barrel politics, broken programs, and even money that goes completely unaccounted for (can anyone say pass a financial audit).

Yet, we cannot provide a modern, clean, safe, and functional metro transportation system servicing the capital of our country or for that matter educate our young people properly or feed the hungry and shelter the homeless within our own borders.

There is a lot broken here and Metro is just the tip of the leadership iceberg unbecoming who we are and what our potential for this world is. 😉

It’s Getting Mighty Hot

Global Warming.jpeg

This is a advertisement around Washington DC alerting people to the dangers of global warming.

“I’m Too Hot”

And

“9 of the 10 hottest years have occurred since 2000.”

Wait a second, for some (or many) a little extra heat may be considered a good thing especially if you live up north with generally freezing cold and miserably snowy winters.

So don’t just tell us about it getting hotter, but tell us how hot is it actually going to get and what will happen when it does–melting glaciers, rising oceans and catastrophic flooding of cities, weather abnormalities and violent natural disasters, and so on.

We need to move on to the substance of this.

Just like with the national debt, we keep talking about it going up (and up).

Well what’s so bad about that if we can just print some more greenbacks and pay for more stuff, maybe it’s a good–or great–investment in our country and future?

Here again, the message that isn’t getting out clearly is what is going to happen when the debt becomes unsustainable and printing or devaluing dollars will not solve the problem and may actually exasperate it by creating run-away inflation, a downgraded or junk credit rating, and higher debt payments possibly tanking our economy and people’s savings.

Yeah, we don’t want to cause a panic.

But shielding people from vital information on the dangerous paths we are on will only lead to going further down into the abyss of non-action and potential for cascading calamity.

Let’s face it–it’s unpopular to talk anything doom or gloom–financial crises or natural disasters or especially anything with WMD–but if we aren’t the adults in the political room, who will be?

For once, I’d love a leader who tells it straight, who helps us face our own worst nightmares, and actually gets us back on track again, rather than keeps the wool pulled over our eyes for another term or two.

Leadership is lost in rosy glasses, vote counting, pundits called upon to obscure the truth from the people, keeping a false calm, and creating wildly inflated legacies.

These motives for now are stronger than the determination to deal with the threats we face, but not forever, and then the pendulum will most abruptly swing in the other direction, precariously late for the ensuing global effects. 😉
