Jew-Hate Shouted Aloud

Please see my new article in The Times of Israel called “Jew-Hate Shouted Aloud.”

We were walking to synagogue today for Shabbat services, and were taken aback when out of the window of a speeding car someone yelled, “Heil Hitler!”…While I value all the freedoms we have in this country, including the freedom of speech (especially as I am a writer), I am concerned that if the anti-Semitism can’t be addressed through law enforcement action when it’s at the verbal stage of offense then what does that leave—it has to escalate to violence for the police to be able to take action against the haters and perpetrators?

Just as it is illegal to yell “fire” in a crowded theatre and cause danger to the public, I believe that shouting vile hatred and incitement should be illegal for the same reasons. We don’t need to be able to punish people for thought crimes, but we do need to be able to protect people from hate-mongers who are openly leading up to violent expressions of their deep-seated Jew hatred, by identifying hate speech as a bona fide illegal and punishable crime.

‘Uncut Gems’ Cuts Deep

Please see my new article in The Times of Israel called, “Uncut Gems Cuts Deep.”

Yesterday, we went to see the new Adam Sandler movie, Uncut Gems….Ratner’s life is full of shlemazel of his own making. While he has a good wife, kids, and extended family (maybe with the exception of his loan shark uncle), a fancy-schmancy home in the suburbs with a newly renovated pool, his own jewelry business that even caters to some big-league sports players, and a shiksa girlfriend on the side (who seems to love him), Ratner is never satisfied or happy and is always pushing for more!

In the movie, Howard Ratner was driven by greed and made bad life choices, and to me, it was a shame that the he was portrayed as a Jew, which can feed the vicious cycle of discrimination and hatred that has often been anchored around money. With the vicious machete attack on Chanukah at a Rabbi’s house in Monsey this week (after a slew of other anti-Semitic incidents, including an attack on a student for wearing a yalmulke on the NYC Subway to beatings and tire slashings of Jews in Brooklyn), we are reminded that there is once again a resurgence of prejudice and hate against Jews, but also that it’s the light of Chanukah that “drives out the darkness,” and that money and materialism are a mere shabby substitute to finding true security and success whether you work in the dense NYC Diamond District or live in the sprawling suburbs of America.

Not WHO They Seem

People may all sort of look alike.

But they are not all the same.

It’s NOT a matter of race, religion, color, sexual orientation, etc. that is important.

But rather it’s what is inside people’s hearts.

Some hearts are pure in intent (even if not in every deed).

Others are sullied with hate and abuse of others just because they can.

But why hurt others when you can help them?

People are not all the same.

Inside they are different.

Luckily G-d looks at the inside; the outside is just the packaging. 😉

Righting Wrongs To Sephardim

Please see my new article in The Times of Israel called, “Righting Wrongs To Sephardim.”

The initial waves of Aliyah beginning in 1882 were driven by the persecution and pogroms, and later the Holocaust, in Europe. Thus, Israeli society initially built up their institutions and power centers around these Ashkenazi pioneers. Immediately after 1948, when Sephardic refugees were expelled from the Arab countries en masse, Israel was overwhelmed with as immigration influx that virtually doubled the Jewish population in Israel in the first three years of its existence. Unfortunately, the newly arrived Sephardim were relegated to a substandard housing and economic situation, which then persisted for many decades.

In Jewish society, however, there is no room for ethnic discrimination and inequality, and the formation of a Sephardic political party in 1984 was a crucial milestone in Jewish social and economic justice. For almost 30 years, Shas was led by Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, the former Israel Chief Sephardic Rabbi and spiritual leader, and Shas has remained one of Israel’s top political parties.

A Disgrace On The Democrats

The Democratic Party should be ashamed of themselves.

They have become the new hate-mongering party!

Progressives no way.

Their bigotry, racism, and hatred are taking us backwards.

Their members’ attack friends, allies, and patriots of this country.

And these bigots are worshipped and placed on the cover of Time Magazine.

To the 3,000 that were killed on 9/11, it is a disgrace.

To this great nation, it is bringing us down from being a light unto nations to ushering in darkness and prejudice.

Shame on Pelosi and Schumer and the other democrats who are allowing extremism and hate to dominate their agenda.

First they hated on Trump

(Ilahn Omar even hated on Obama!)

Then they hated on Israel and the Jews.

Who are they coming for next America?

Democrats and Anti-Semitism

Please see my new article in The Times of Israel, called “From Belgium To The Democratic Party.”

There are terrible anti-Semitic events happening in parallel in Europe and right here in America. This past week, Belgian hosted mocking and hateful caricatures of Orthodox Jews in their carnival procession. And right here in Washington, D.C., the Democratic Party made a complete farce of the handling of one of its own, anti-Semites, Rep. Ilhan Omar. Omar continues to vent her hared against Israel even going so far as to denounce its supporters as having “dual loyalty.”

It is so disheartening to see the Democratic party reverting back to its ugly days and roots of hate just like during/after the Civil War when they were the party of “opposition to civil and political rights for African Americans.”

The question is how far down this evil path will things go again?  😉

Getting Rid Of The “Farting Cows”

Please see my new article in The Times of Israel called, “Getting Rid of the Farting Cows:

When politicians are extremists (Alt-left or -right) and want to get rid of “farting cows” and airplanes, then who knows what or who is next on their genocidal list (and with the elimination of cows being all too reminiscent of the notion of Jews going “like sheep to the slaughter.”)

Bigotry, hate and extremism is unbecoming of a Congressional Representative like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and they should be resolutely rejected– it hurts an important environmental cause and needs to be rejected for the cows and for us. 😉

The New Faces Of Hate

Representative Illhan Omar claims Congressional lawmakers are bribed to support U.S. friend and ally, Israel:

“It’s all about the Benjamins baby”.

Representative Rashida Tlaib said about congressional representatives supporting Israel in a bill  that would punish companies that participate in Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) to further Israel’s destruction.

“They forget what country they represent.”

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez stated about Israel’s defending their sovereign border with Gaza amidst terrorist organization, Hamas-led violent protests, terror attacks, and infiltrations into Israel:

“This is a massacre. I hope my peers have the moral courage to call it such. No state is absolved of the mass shooting of protesters.”

“Silence” around the Palestinian cause “has been a little interesting to me.”

Perhaps, the most concerning thing is where is the Democratic Party leadership in calling out these anti-Semitic hate-mongers in their ranks?

State Of Our Politicians

Last night was the State of the Union…

But this morning, I still can’t help thinking about the State of our Politicians.

The picture from Virginia governor, Ralph Northam medical school yearbook is outrageous, and yet he refuses to step down.

This didn’t happen when he was kid, but as a responsible adult.

And even for those of us who believe in personnel change and forgiveness, there has to be accountability for something this callous, hurtful, bigoted and offensive.

What happened to our politicians being true patriots, looking out for our good and the best interests of our nation?

One lady said to a group of us last evening:

I know who I am going to vote for in the next elections, and it’s NO ONE currently in political office!

To which another gentleman replied:

It doesn’t matter who you vote for, a politician always wins.

Somehow, I still have faith that there are people who can rise to the occasion and be the leaders that they must be. 😉

Respecting Native Americans

So I don’t know what went down with the students from Catholic Covington High School and the Native Americans in the video that was widely circulated the other day.

People claiming all sorts of racism and hate, and others saying nothing happened–usually the truth is somewhere in between.

In light of this, I wanted to share this awesome painting, and say we should absolutely respect the Native Americans and do everything we can to help them.

These are the indigenous people that were here long before we ever were, and let’s just say that they suffered and lost a lot when the first Europeans arrived on these shores.

We are all G-d’s children, and no one acting with integrity and peacefully should ever be mistreated or disrespected, no one! 😉
