I can’t help but see red.
Red is the color of an apple and a strawberry
Red is the color of blood and fire.
Red is when you unfortunately lose money or go broke.
Red is a can of Coke and the planet Mars.
Red means you got something wrong on the paper or exam.
Red sneakers, that’s okay too. 😉

Here we are sucking up leaves in January.
It almost looks like we’re sucking up the whole ground with it!
After the warmest decade on record, we seem to be having the warmest year on record.
It’s 52 degrees out, and we’ve been reaching up into the high 60’s so far this month.
Global warming or the big fires in Australia or action with Iran are heating things up here in Washington, D.C. 😉

It is not hard to imagine Israel developing drones that can effectively deal with the terror balloons and kites. If a drone, can hover for extended periods overhead, go on GPS or remote-controlled operational missions, and can even be used to “take out” terrorist targets or other drones, then certainly they can intercept, capture, redirect, or destroy the flaming balloons and kites that the terrorists are sending to kill and destroy.
Israel and the IDF not only have the fundamental technical and scientific knowhow with both drones and missile defense, but also they have the motivation, with G-d’s help, to save the lives of the Israeli people as well as the beautiful and holy land of Israel. 😉

In honor of the amazing (2nd to last) episode last night of Game of Thrones…
I am posting this artistic Dragon.
That dragon last night sure was able to do a lot of damage.
It was a very dramatic and sad episode.
I won’t give it away.
But an air force of dragons can certainly do quite well.
Dropping some serious firepower is what they do. 😉

So fire is a tool for heating and cooking, but obviously it is also a destructive force that can be and is weaponized.
From tales and mythologies of old, dragons would spew fire from their mouths and destroy the enemy leaving only maybe their charred remains (likely, we will get to see more of that in Season 8 of Game of Thrones coming up soon).
In the 20th century, flamethrowers were widely used in World War I and II, and today thermonuclear weapons create great fireballs and mushroom clouds.
But already as far back as the Bible, Samson fought with fire against the Philistines.
He caught 300 foxes, tied them tail to tail in pairs and put a lite torch between them and they ran terror and havoc through his enemy’s encampment.
By the time of the Greek and Roman Empires, they would use catapults to hurl pots or bundles of flaming materials at their enemies.
In the Movie, Gladiator, upon releasing these catapults, he orders: “Unleash Hell!”
During the Spanish Inquisition, the inquisitor and his henchman would force Jews and others to convert or face execution by fire in the auto-da-fe.
Again in the Salem Witch Hunts, they would burn suspected witches at the stake.
And in more recent times, in the War Against Terror, ISIS was shown in videos that went viral torching those they considered infidels.
The other night watching a movie, “Redbad,” there was a riveting scene, where the Franks pour accelerants on live pigs and then light them up with torches and send them darting like crazy into the enemy ranks and villages.
Fire for good or for evil, those flaming pigs, I will never forget. 😉

So it seems like the human mind can fundamentally only remember things in threes.
Whether it’s a joke about serving 3 meals: Frozen, Microwave, and Take-out.
Or Even washing your hair: Wash, Rinse, Repeat.
How about what to do when there is an:
Active Shooter: Run, Hide, Fight
Fire: Stop, Drop, Roll
Earthquake: Drop, Cover, Hold On
G-d forbid there should be 4 or more steps to do something, and mankind would be beyond his/her mental limitations and at a virtual standstill.
So read, remember, and use this appropriately–that’s the 3 things to do now with this post. 😉

So I learned that Metrology is the science of measurement.
And measurement is the foundation of scientific research and creating standards.
Scientific research and measurement are about exploration, discovery, and innovation.
Further, it is about finding the facts; it is objective; it is truth; it is essential to maintaining integrity.
Standards also help to ensure dependability, because there is a common reference and you know what you are getting.
A great true story that demonstrates the importance of measurements and standards is the Great Baltimore Fire of 1904.
This was the third worst urban inferno in American history.
It destroyed over 1,500 building across 140 acres.
Fire engines responded from as far as New York and Virginia.
But the problem was that they invariably could not help.
Why?
Because their fire hose couplings could not fit on the Baltimore fire hydrants–they were not standardized.
Without standards, we don’t have interoperability.
We don’t have a reference that everyone can go by.
It’s as if we’re all working on our own desert islands.
This defeats the power in numbers that make us together greater than the sum of our individual parts.
Science and technology help us advance beyond just ourselves and today.
Measurement and standardization help us to build a better and stronger society. 😉
