Don’t Lose Your Head

Please see my new article in The Times of Israel called, “Don’t Lose Your Head.”

Woman are notorious in the Bible for taking men’s heads—and I mean taking them!

The great news is that women are awesome fighters, the bad news is that your head is a very valuable thing to lose.

Story About Dressing Modestly

One of my good friends told me a funny story.

The friend of his daughter was wearing one of those cropped shirts which expose the belly.

She said that her dad told her to throw a party for her clothes, so that her shirt could meet her shorts.

I guess all dads worry about the modesty of their daughters.

This was a good tznius story that hammers home the point and is also pretty funny. 😉

Don’t Call Me Sir!

Please see my new article in The Times of Israel called, “Don’t Call Me Sir!”

In a split second, the officer zeros in on me and admonishingly says: “I’m not a Sir!” I’m taken aback, as I watch the officer speak, their face hardened and angular and their full mustache rising and falling with their words.

It’s Pride Month, and I learned a valuable lesson in sensitivity, respect, and diversity and that in short:

Black Lives Matter, Blue Lives Matter, Jewish Lives Matter, All Lives Matter!  We are all children of G-d. 😉

Long Nails

Ran into this lady in South Florida.

Couldn’t help but notice the nails.

She told me she’s been growing them like this for 29 years!

I asked if she had any difficulty typing, driving, or anything.

And she told me she does everything with them.

No, I don’t think that I want to touch these things.

I’m only getting as close as the camera. 😉

Wig and Taped Mouth

Thought this was a pretty scary mannequin.

Aside from the disheveled hair covering her head and half her face.

You can see that her mouth and nose is taped over with clear masking tape!

Clearly she looks like she has been abused or worse, and the image is that she can’t even scream for help.

Why anyone would advertise women’s fashion in this misogynist way should be beyond all of us.

There are a lot of crazy nuts out there.

This photo is a small reminder of what we face in terms of ugliness in this world.

Relax, It’s Just Sex

Just thought this was a really funny-sad display in the window of this store in Tel Aviv.

It says:

Relex It’s Just Sex

Forget that Relax is spelled wrong.

But advertising for sexual items in such a casual way…like it’s sex and what’s the big deal.

Maybe I am old school, where sex actually meant a deep personal relationship and emotional intimacy.

…Where you partner was also your spouse and best friend.

Now–unfortunately–it’s just sex!

I think as a society that we have lost something here.

…Something important.

If it’s just sex, and it’s just with anyone, then what does that leave for us with that someone truly special in our lives? 😉

Interfaith Movie Today

This afternoon, we attended the interfaith movie screening of “The Judge.

The movie is about a Palestinian woman who becomes “the first woman judge in a Shari’a ‘family law’ court.”

Let’s just say it wasn’t easy for her to break into this male-dominated profession within institutionalized religion in the Middle East.

Thinking in an interfaith way, I guess it’s maybe not so dissimilar to women breaking into the profession of the Rabbinate.

Another similarity between the religions was that there were many Islamic religious leaders that were very conservative and dead set against women in the Shari’a courts, while others stood up against the tide and inspired change — I think we have similar disagreements in Judaism between the ultra-orthodox who want to stick with the “old” historical ways of doing things, and the more liberal Jews that seek the freedom to alter those ways.

During the movie, there were some interesting take-aways like under Shariah law, men are allowed up to 4 wives!

Another funny line in the movie was when one of the men said that the men never make trouble for the women (i.e. it’s all the women’s fault).

In the court cases filmed, there seemed to be a lot of cases of domestic violence and of divorce, and in one case in particular the wife was actually stabbed to death in the court house by her husband who she was trying to get a divorce from.

Overall, it felt good to attend the event and try to be a part of the healing process between people.

The event was sponsored by the Jewish-Islamic Dialogue Society (JIDS) of Washington, D.C.

The Photo Every Man Fears

This was quite an interesting picture to put in the National Museum of Women in the Arts.

That is one mighty large scissors that lady is holding.

Uh, she looks a little commando-ish with the jump suit, cap, and sunglasses.

Is she ready for war or for punishing some bad men?

I don’t believe there is a man out there that isn’t spooked by this lady.

My *** hurts just looking at this. 😉

What’s The Big Fascination?

From Victoria’s Secret to colorful art renditions, medieval metal, and cross-dressing on the neighborhood corner…

This does not seem to be about being angels, unchaste, or even “sexy-wexy “(as I think my mother-in-law calls it).

So I really have to ask what is all the fascination about here?

Culturally, we seem to be a little OCD.

If Martians visited us, I don’t think they would understand us at all.

Frankly, I’m not sure that I do either!  😉
