How’s This For A Two-In-One?

How's This For A Two-In-One?

CTA makes this pedestal iPad and toilet paper holder–to help you when you really need it.

Get your information and also your personal cleaning products at the tip of your fingers.

Many people like to browse, read, or otherwise entertain themselves with the iPad, now you can do it and take care of your other business too.

The CTA holder has a gooseneck so you can adjust and view at any angle, and it has a heavyweight base to keep it stable and upright.

Imagine you can even get it at Sears for just $44.32 (or the SupplyStore.com)–affordable, entertaining, and convenient.

You may also want to consider a Philips iPad Splashguard, they come in a three pack. ūüėČ

Robot Firefighters To The Rescue

Meet Octavia, a new firefighting robot from the Navy’s Laboratory for Autonomous Systems Research (LASR) in Washington, D.C.Octavia and her brother Lucas are the the latest in firefighting technology. These robots can hear commands, see through infrared cameras, identify patterns, and algorithmically make decisions on diverse information sets. While the current prototypes move around like a Segway, future versions will be able to climb ladders and get around naval vessels. It is pretty cool seeing this robot spray flame retardant to douse the fire, and you can imagine similar type robots shooting guns on the front line at our enemies.

Robots are going to play an increasingly important role in all sorts of jobs, and not only the repetitive ones where we put automatons, but also the dangerous situations (like the bomb disposal robots), where robots can get out in front and safeguard human lives.

While the technology is still not there yet–and the robot seems to need quite a bit of instruction and hand waving–you can still get a decent glimpse of what is to come.

Robots with artificial intelligence and natural language processing will be putting out those fires all by themselves…and then some.

Imagine a robot revolution is coming, and what we now call mobile computing is going to take on a whole new meaning with robots on the go–autonomously capturing data, processing it, and acting on it.

I never did see an iPhone or iPad put out a fire, but Octavia and brother Lucas will–and in the not too distant future!

Tougher Than An iPad

Panasonic unveiled their ToughPad this week–the FZ-A1.This is a hardened device ready for outdoor use. Rated for¬†MIL-STD-810G, the device is 4′ shock-resistant, rated for extreme¬†temperatures, and is resistant to water and dust with IP65 sealed¬†design.Currently comes in 10″ size, but the FZ-B1 device is slated for a¬†smaller 7″ screen in Q2 2012.

The toughPad packs a lot of punch: This is an Android 3.2 device with 1.2 GHz dual core,1 GB RAM, 16 GB storage, 2 cameras (back 5 megapixel and front 2 megapixel), anti-glare multitouch screen 768 x 1024 megapixels, a 10 hour repalceable battery, USB, GPS, WIFI 802.11, Bluetooth, and optional 3G mobile broadband.

Optional accessories for vehicle mounting and hands-free holsters.

Priced at around $1299.

Great option for the warfighter, law enforcement and homeland security professional as well as others working in challenging environments.

Human Evolution, Right Before Our Eyes

Watching how this toddler interacts with an iPad and is then frustrated by plain-old magazines is comical, but also a poignant commentary on our times.
Media that doesn’t move, drill down, pop up, connect us, and otherwise interact with the end-user is seen here as frustrating and dated.
This speaks volumes about where our children and grandchildren are headed with technology adoption and then hopefully “taking it to the next level” and the next!
At the same time, this obviously does not bode well for the legacy paper and magazine publishing industry.
It can be difficult to see things changing so dramatically before our very eyes, but with every doors that closes, there us another one that opens.
And so with technology and with life itself, “to everything there is a time and a purpose under the heaven.”

Head Over Heels For Technology

This is really a very cool video called iPad Head Girl.
The girl is covered with 4 iPads–each with an image of a different angle of a headshot (face, back, and sides) making it look almost like her real head.
You’re thinking–what is this: a robot, a person, an alien?–it’s really up to your imagination, but you’d better get a closer look.
I understand from Coolest-Gadgets¬†that this is actually part of an advertising campaign by Thinkmodo for a racy iPad magazine called “Cosmo for Guys,” and No, I am not promoting this in any way!
However, the advertising with the walking head iPads and the images of the girl is definitely making heads turn, but for very different reasons and it has nothing to do with sex and everything to do with technology.
My view is that we are fascinated by the “latest and greatest” use of technology–and are basically ready, on the lookout for the next great amazing breakthrough.
Technology while obviously amazing feats of science, engineering, and design–also borders on the magical for most of us as we watch and see what the new technology can do, even though we don’t really know how it does it.
Like the lady walking around with iPad head–we see it, but can’t really believe what we’re seeing.
The miracle of technology–keeps us all at the edge of our seats with hope, wonder, and awe for what magic is going to walk down the street next and leave us mouths agape.

>ZyPAD + iPad = Wow!

>

This is great–the ZyPAD by Eurotech.

A true wrist-mounted computer.

Rugged, wearable, ergonomic, GPS, bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled.

Turns off when arm is down and lights up when arm is up.

According to Trendhunter, sales are initially targeting military, law enforcement, emergency services, and healthcare.

I can see this expanding to sales, delivery, production, warehousing, and loads of service-based jobs–such as in “may I take your order please?” or “how would you like to pay for that?”

Runs on Windows CE–ugh!

I’d like to marry up the function and operating system of an iPad with the fit and form of the ZyPAD and then I think we may just have a real winner!
