It’s All In The Interpretation

So a friend sent me this hilarious spoof about automatic transmissions, and it goes something like this…

A guy calls up the car service hotline and asks for help with his car.

What’s the matter?

Well the car works perfectly in the daytime, but it refuses to drive at night.

The lady on the customer service line is baffled.

Then he explains:

– During the daytime, I just put the car into “daytime” (D) mode, and it drives fine.

– But then at night, I put it into the “nighttime” (N) mode, and it doesn’t move.

– What’s worse yet, when another car tried to jump ahead of him, he puts the transmission into “race” (R) mode, and he ends up hitting the car behind him!

At this point, the customer service representative is completely cracking up laughing.

Apparently not everyone has the same notion of “drive” (D), “neutral” (N), and “reverse” (R)–and frankly, maybe we shouldn’t take so much in life for granted.  😉

The Games People Play

Games.jpeg

The title sounds ominous, but I mean it differently.

People like to play games–the type you have fun at.

We learn to play when we are kids.

We get the attention of our parents and friends–and we have fun just being together, acting silly or even competing with each other.

Whether it’s over a game of Life, Monopoly, Risk, or Connect Four, or even these days going online with a game of Minecraft or Crush.

Sports is another type of game–great to play and others like to watch and cheer for their favorite teams or athletes.

This week at work, someone said to come to his meeting because:

“…everyone would have fun.”

Have you ever heard that at work–a fun meeting or for that matter anything being fun in an office setting?

The guy is a genius–people actually showed up in droves at the meeting.

They had to choose between various meetings going on at that time–and low and behold, people chose this one that was going to be fun!

In the meeting, there was a big bowl of candy and chocolate in the center of the conference table.

And the mood was relaxed as we got down to some business.

While we did the business, people felt free to be a little silly and laugh with each other too.

The tone had been set for some fun.

The person who hosted the meeting explained that he wanted people to have a good time coming to the meeting (and to work).

He called it “gamification.”

The idea is why not make things into a type of game and have some fun with it instead of everything being so stuck up and nasty all the time.

Listen, it was still a meeting and work had to get done, but it was nice to see a different lighter perspective put on it.

People want to enjoy what they do–whether it’s time with their family, friends, or why not even their work.

If we can make more things in life into a game of sorts and put “fun” into the equation of what we do–people smile, laugh, and let down their guards a little.

Why shouldn’t adult play games and have fun too? 😉

Secret To Long Life

Eat Walk Laugh Love.jpeg

I just love this Tibetan proverb on the secret to long life

“Eat Half

Walk Double

Laugh Triple

and

Love Without Measure,”

The rest is icing on the Tibetan cake.

Walking The Pink Carpet

Computer Bird

Only in Starbucks Florida…

Does Buddy the bird sing and dance inside the shop next to the coffee drinkers.

Here, my wife was doing some writing for the Federal Communicators Network.

And she is very serious about her writing–and don’t bug her when she’s into it.

But Buddy was a different story…

He proudly walked right over the iPad pink keyboard.

And then headed for another circuit around the table.

Picking up keys, ripping up the New York Times, hanging upside down, and playing with everyone who was only too happy to pay him attention.

When I asked Buddy if he liked Starbucks coffee, he started bopping up and down like crazy–it was hilarious.

As to my wife’s computer and writing, this was about the only thing that she would allow to disturb her.

I was surprised she didn’t eat the bothersome bird, but even she had to laugh at his gall to step into her virtual world of writing, brands, and social media. 😉

Shockingly Hungry

Parenting

So a funny part of my personality is that I can be a little bit of a joker sometimes.

I am a study of human nature, so it can be fun just to get a rouse out of people, by doing something unexpected or even shocking.

Today, going through the airport with my daughter, the TSA security lines were a lot better than what had been advertised lately.

As we get through and are getting our stuff together, my daughter says to me (around breakfast time now): “I’m hungry, can we get something to eat?”

So, I jokingly turn to her with a serious face on and say, “But you already ate yesterday!”

This strange man next to us, stops dead in his tracks overhearing what I said, and gives us the craziest look.

So what do I do having a ball with this?

I repeat even louder and with more emphasis, “Why do you need to eat again?  You already ate yesterday!!”

I am having to hold myself from cracking up laughing as I know this guy is listening and I almost can’t wait to see his facial expression.

I look at my daughter who gets it and is playing along and she is also pretending and putting on a sour face like she can’t have any food today.

The guy looks like he is about to explode and say something, but decides I suppose to just make a real disgusted kvetchy face and move on.

I was sort of disappointed that he didn’t want to help (in his mind) this kid and say something like, “How can you do that–and not feed her every day?”

I would have admired him for actually caring enough to try to help and intervene for someone else, even a stranger.

But I guess the pent up shocked look will have to surface for today’s human antics. 😉

Larry The Lobster Is All Wound Up

While Dossy was getting a haircut today, Minna and I went into the Hobby Store.

We wound up Larry The Lobster here and let him go wild.

You can enjoy his crazy dancing and waving.

It was nice to have a day off together and fun for us to take this short video.

Ocean Waves (Take 60 Seconds To Enjoy)

I took this video of the ocean waves coming unto the sandy beach (some seaweed included).

60 seconds of pure calm and peaceful tide.

Today, they finally took down the purple flags that indicate dangerous marine life, so we were able to go in the ocean and really enjoy.

The rhythm of the ocean waves, the sun tanning our skin, the warm relaxing water, and the people playing and laughing (and some kissing).

Thank you Hashem for this wonderful day and the beautiful world you created for us to partake of–blessed are thou!
