@Eastern State Penitentiary

Photos are from my tour of Eastern Penitentiary in Philadelphia.

The prison cells were in these tomb thick concrete structures, freezing cold, and completely claustrophobic!

You have to stoop through a tiny doorway to get in and out.

The cell with the car in it shows how small these prison cells were.

There is a photo of a cell with a stinking toilet and also the one with a barbers chair.

Then there is the picture of the fancy cell which is that of Al Capone’s (right after the regular disgusting cell). Pretty sure Capone had some real pull with the warden and guards, and I’m sure they were afraid to cross him.

There was even a synagogue in this frightful gothic-style prison with a light that says Shalom (peace).

One cell had art painted on the walls and had many of these dreamy-looking women in Island type spots so far away from the reality of these horrible prison conditions.

It was also interesting the the prisoners inside these walls were I’m sure dying to get out, and yet the visitors to the prison were lined up at the ticket booth to get a glimpse inside.

The whole experience was so full of juxtaposing contrasts.

I feel like I learned a lot. Overall, a nice place to visit, but I wouldn’t want to live here! 😉

What REALLY Happened to Jeffrey Epstein

It was incredible to find out today what really happened to that convicted sex offender, slime bucket, Jeffrey Epstein.

He was murdered!

How do I know?

It was on the coffee cup at Starbucks, of course.

Honestly, I don’t really care that much how he died, but am just grateful that sick louse is a goner.  😉

Nimbyism By All

So I learned a new word this week:

Nimby, which stands for:

Not

I

M

Back

Yard

It refers to people who object to and don’t want something unpleasant or dangerous in their neighborhood.

Prisons

Homeless Shelters

Garbage Dumps

Radioactive Waste Sites

Oil and Gas Pipelines

Noisy Railroads

Polluting Factories

Adult Entertainment

etc.

Yes, society as a whole apparently wants or needs these things, but the individuals just want to see it someplace (anyplace) else.

People want the benefits, but don’t want the costs and risks associated with these things near them.

The problem is when everyone feels this way then you are left either choosing somewhere despite the nimbyism protests or you have to locate them in remote places that are not always functional, fair or efficient for society.

Perhaps this is where incentives or compensation comes in for people to get in order to “put up” with the placement of things in their backyard that they rather not have there.

Is that what it means that nimbyism aside, “everyone has their price”?

Jailbird Freedom

So I’m doing laps in the indoor pool.

And out of the corner of my eye, I see this bird swoop in overhead.

But it’s not outside, it’s inside the building enclosure.

The bird dived in through an open door.

Now it was stuck inside.

It perched itself on a shelf overlooking the outdoors.

But it was stuck behind the glass walls.

The lifeguard tried to swoop it out with the sticks, brushes, and nets for cleaning the pool.

But this bird wasn’t going anywhere.

I asked if it was injured or sick.

He said that the bird was scared, which made sense.

Over and over again, the lifeguard tried to coax the bird out.

Finally, it took flight and headed straight into another glass pane–BONG–and fell down–SPLAT–onto another ledge.

The lifeguard and I looked at each other — asking whether the bird was still alive or not.

I suggested he call for help, and the advice he was given was just to leave it alone and that eventually, it would find its way out.

It was time for me to go, but I am still thinking about that trapped bird.

If you love something, you have to let it free.

Everyone and everything should be free (unless they’ve abused that freedom).

Free to come and go, free to express themselves, free to choose, free to act.

Sometimes, when you’re free you run into trouble or into a glass pane.

You need to find your way out and home again to freedom. 😉

Iron Maiden Torture

Check this out.

This is called an Iron Maiden.

It is from Nuremberg, Germany.

This one is from Medieval times, but they were apparently still around even in the 19th century!

It has 14 spikes on the inside that were designed to pierce the eyes, throat, and heart.

People placed for torture and death in the Iron Maiden sarcophagus would be completely mutilated.

Is this one of the reasons that so many people suffer from claustrophobia?

I remember seeing in a movie where someone was placed in a dungeon cell, but this one was carved into the rock wall horizontally.

The prisoner would be forced to lie down in it with iron bars caged over the side vertically.

S/he could not sit up, roll over, or move.

Can you imagine the sheer terror and torture?

How people could be so evil and inflict such suffering on others and often for crimes like heresy is extremely hard to understand.

Why in G-d’s name does anyone call it the “good ‘ol days?”

Look Who’s Talking About Obstruction Of Justice

Hillary.jpeg

One of those are you kidding me moments…

Hillary is talking about other people’s obstruction of justice

Wasn’t it her husband, Bill, who had a little talk with then U.S. Attorney General, Loretta Lynch, on the tarmac–with cameras and mics turned off–when the FBI was investigating her!

During the election, the crowds chanted “Lock her up!”

This isn’t about Democrat or Republican.

Wherever you look, the politics seems so dirty and the corruption so deep.

What happened to the soul of America and what we really stood for as a people and a nation?

The FBI Chief Goes Kerplunk

Thunk.jpeg

Who would’ve thunk it…the FBI chief goes kerplunk.

James Comey–only 37% through his tenure as Director–is fired for the (mis)handling of the Hillary Clinton email fiasco.

But Hillary never even saw justice.

The politics in Washington is forever an ironic cliffhanger.

The democrats who were supposedly aggrieved by Comey in the election are now screaming foul for his dismissal

And the republicans who supposedly benefited by Comey closing and opening of the case against Clinton are signing praises for his release.

Nothing is ever as it seems.

Aliens could be falling from the sky and it would still be a political event.

Washington conspiracy and counter-conspiracy theories…but the work of the people does it ever get done?  😉
