Look Down To Feel Up

Feet.jpeg

Listen, everyone has problems.

Whoever I talk to has something bad and fairly serious to complain about, and there seems to be new things coming all the time.

Just today, I heard from one person who went to the dentist with a tooth pain only to discover it had been silently infected for over a year, and was so serious that it literally could’ve killed him.

Another person told be about having a child with special needs and moving to an area with a school that could more effectively deal and help them.

And a third person told me how they lost their husband many years ago at the age of just 39-years old and being left a widow.

But people make the best of it!

They have to.

I remember my father saying when my mother got so sick with Parkinson’s Disease:

“We are part of the survivors club.”

It wasn’t easy to see her endless suffering while he selflessly tried to help her day-in and -out and cope with the physical and emotional pain of it all.

When I was younger my dad would teach me about not feeling bad whatever the situation, and to always be grateful for what you have, and he told the story:

“There was a poor man who had no shoes, and he felt very bad…that is, until he saw someone else who had no feet.”

It doesn’t take much for things to get really bad in life…sometimes it can seem like we’re literally just holding on by a thin thread.

But as G-d tests us and teaches us, we need to try to look on the bright side and be grateful that things aren’t worse….and yes, they can even get better again. 😉

Big Mouths Alert

Big MOuth.JPeG

So I took this photo in the Museum of Natural History.

As you can see, this hippopotamus has quite a big mouth.

He is also not alive and is behind a glass-enclosed case for viewing.

To me this screams that those with big mouths often don’t end up well.

I remember a relative of mine used to bluntly call it, “being full of sh*t.”

Whether these people are in politics, your neighborhood, bullies at work and school, or even those in the fake news media…they have become all to somewhat frequent.

Sure there are other animals with small mouths in the same situation, but the hippo truly is a decreasing and vulnerable species.

And like it’s neighbor in the museum, the dinosaur–another one who has a big mouth–that ended up extinct, the prospects for talking big, but accomplishing little is sort of part of the character.

The hippopotamus is mostly a herbivore–it has a big mouth and some big sharp teeth, but it mainly eats humble plants and doesn’t pursue the hunt of the big game and eat lots of red meat.

Listen, big mouths can still be highly dangerous–words are powerful and can do a lot of damage.

But overall “talk is cheap,” especially when people focus on words and not good deeds and who don’t have the right intentions. 😉

Makeup That Leaves You Wondering

Lips.jpegArt Of The Lip.jpeg

So I was in Macy’s yesterday doing some holiday shopping for the girls.

And came across these eye-catching advertisements for MAC cosmetics, especially lipstick.

The one with the mustache lip and the big gap in the front teeth caught attention–like what in the world is that?

And the poster with twenty-one different lips certainly let you know that there is quite a bit that makeup can do to express your lips and yourself.

Overall, thought it was quite an effective advertisement, even if the one with the mustache was a little gender confusing. 😉

Man Versus Alligator

Alligator 1 Alligator 2 Alligator 3 Alligator 4 Alligator 5.jp4g Alligator 6

Today we saw some “Alligator Wrestling.”

The guy said he doesn’t get paid anything–except tips–because if he’s on the payroll, no one would cover his disability insurance–ah, go figure.

The photos progress from the guy putting his hand in between the gator’s open mouth to his full head in the grasp of the gator’s jaws.

Maybe this guy was too sleek, because I think the crowd was disappointed that the gator (in captivity) seemed to be “losing”.

This is not what happens on the Discovery Channel, where all it takes is for the gator to lash out hard and fast–just once–and this guy in mince meat!

Can’t Find My Dentures

Dentures
This was a funny sign this morning in the elevator.

Someone found a set of dentures on the table in the lobby!

Uh, what was someone doing taking out their dentures and putting them on a public table in the lobby?

I remember my beloved Opa (grandfather) who had quite a set of dentures (years ago they couldn’t as readily save people’s teeth as they can today).

When my sister and I would go over to my Opa and Oma for Shabbat lunch after synagogue, and sometime right before Birchas Hamazon (grace after meals), my grandfather would invariably end up taking out his dentures and we would all laugh together at how silly those things looked.

But thank G-d for those dentures, beause I don’t know how people would eat solid food or smile a non-gummy smile without them.

Of course, I hope whoever lost their dentures in the lobby isn’t going crazy searching for them, sees the lost and found sign, and claims them soon.

Anyway, can you imagine going down to the lobby and seeing someone’s false teeth just laying there randomly on the table or when they go to the front desk to claim their lost dentures, and the person behind the desk says, “Well Sir (or Madam), can you put them in your mouth and prove that they are yours?” 😉
