Rescue Plan Is Largely Another Shortsighted Bailout

First of all let me point out these photos of the day.

The first one are blue lines on the floor at Whole Foods telling people to keep their social distance from other customers.

One person crossed the blue line and another customer promptly yelled at them that they were going to get them sick!

The second photo is limiting Nutter Butters (“Nut Butters”) to 4 per customer during this coronavirus–sh*t people are downing Nutter Butters like there truly is no tomorrow.  LOL

Finally, looking over the $2 trillion Coronavirus Rescue Plan, I see a lot of bailouts–about half through grants and half through loans.

On the positive and largely necessary side are increases to unemployment insurance payments and aid to needy households (up to $150,000 for married couples is needy?) and to hospitals and transit.

In terms of the business loans, there are “forgivable” ones to small business, so not sure how that is a “loan.”

Overall though, it seems like we are throwing a lot of other money around that we as a country don’t have and will end up paying in terms of a higher national debt and higher interest payments for generations to come.

This is another lost opportunity!

If we were already going to spend big money like this, why not pass the infrastructure spending bill to rebuild our aging roads, bridges, electric grid, aviation, public transit, and expand internet coverage.  This would actually put people back to work and build America again, rather than give corporate handouts that are shortsighted and with squat to show for it for the country’s ultimate benefit.

Everyone likes to get freebies, but eventually the country will come back to pay the piper, and there will be bread lines and not Nutter Butter. 😉

Amazon + Teva = A Marriage Made In Heaven

Amazon+Teva.jpeg

Amazon has upended so many industries–and you can basically buy almost anything there.

And yes, what you can’t buy today, you will be able to buy tomorrow.

What started as books and DVDs is now virtually synonymous with e-Commerce itself!

Next up for Amazon is pharmaceuticals!

Some people may think that Whole Foods gives Amazon the footprint it needs to sell these and dominate.

But what people aren’t considering is that Amazon can sell the pharmaceuticals online.

Amazon can do what other online drug distributors can’t.

Why?

Because Amazon has the most unbelievable distribution network in the world.

Currently, people can order drugs through the mail, but these tend to be for regular reoccurring prescriptions that have lead time.

However, Amazon can outdo these mail order pharma companies, because they can get you the drugs you need when and where you need it.

– You don’t feel well and can’t make it to CVS, Amazon will deliver to your door.

– Need same-day delivery, no problem.

– Plus do all your shopping together in one fell timesaving swoop.

My prediction:

Amazon the low cost, efficient online seller of everything to everywhere is going to partner with Teva Pharmaceuticals, the #1 world leader in low cost generic drugs.

Teva already produces 120 billion tablets and capsules every year, operates in 80 countries, and currently fills 1 in 6 generic prescriptions in the U.S.

Together, Amazon and Teva can make beautiful music, that is medicine + money!

Who needs CVS when pharmaceuticals perhaps soon can be gotten at Whole Foods or at your Trusty Amazon.com.

One more time, I see some radical disruption–and this time it will bring you cheaper and more convenient drugs–make a l’chaim to your health. 😉

(Endnote: I am a big fan + investor in Teva, and of course, all opinions here are my own.)

Dog Days of Summer

Nice promotion at Whole Foods.

They take a photo of your Doggie.

People were lining up for it.

Another lady was there sharing her artist dog portraits.

They were some pretty impressive pooches.

Man’s best friend is often not another person, but a dog.

And if you know some of the people out there, it’s no wonder. 😉

When You’re Feeling Blue…

Rescue Gum

I was intrigued by this “Rescue Gum.”

Whole Foods carries this bright yellow-packaged gum pack (17 pieces), selling it at checkout for just $6.99.

Thinking, they should probably sell this right next to the fruit-flavored “Life Savers.”

So this gum is for stress relief, and it’s made with 5 flower remedies.

Do you believe in that?

When I looked this gum up online, it says:

– “Keep out of reach of children.

– If pregnant or breastfeeding, ask a health professional before use.

– Excessive consumption may induce mildly laxative effects.

– Not suitable for animals.”

Okay, so if you weren’t stressed out before reading the warning on this gum, you are now, right?

I think I’ll pass on the rescue gum, and head over to the hot bar in the back for some seitan and veggies. 😉

rED pEPPERS Anyone

Red Peppers
No, this is not a Washington, D.C. crime scene.

Just someone dropping their jar of roasted red peppers smack in the middle of the street in Foggy Bottom, and just in time for the morning commute.

Well, watch your step folks (there’s broken glass there) and don’t step in the slimmy red pepper sauce (ala Whole Foods “everyday value”).

Just another hump day in the nation’s Capital. 😉
