Ten ‘Points to Ponder’

Please see my new article in The Times of Israel called “Ten ‘Points to Ponder’.”

My dear father, Fred Blumenthal (ZT”L), like many from his generation, used to read Reader’s Digest. I remember that there was a section called “Points to Ponder,” which I thought was a good title for things that can have a deeper and more profound meaning in our lives. So in this vein, I’d like to share a variety of thoughts that may give you pause to ponder as well.

Can Love Be Blind?

Please see my new article in The Times of Israel called “Can Love Be Blind?”As long as in this material world, the body hides the soul of the person, then love can never be fully blind because people cannot see the true brightness of the soul inside or realize the primacy of people’s spiritual inner selves without getting distracted by the physical aspects of the person, including attraction (which as we all know fades over time) and, of course, class, race, and ethnicity. Yes, physical/chemical attraction is an important part of intimate relationships, but at the end of the day, it’s what’s inside that counts, not only in this world, but for our eternal being and purpose.

Light at the End of The Ark

Please see my new article in The Times of Israel called “Light At The End Of The Ark.”

Why was Noah commanded to build a skylight in the ark?

Noah and all the fascinating people in the Bible weren’t just characters in a novel, but they were real people and they experienced up and downs, as we all do in life. The key to remember is that there is always a window where we can see our relative good fortune and everything we have to be grateful for, where we can keep an eye on the light at the end of tunnel (as my father used to say about bad things, “this too shall pass”), and we can look up to our Father in Heaven and remember that He will bring deliverance to us. Even in the mightiest of floods that devastated the world, G-d was still there for us, and He was, is, and always will be!

Don’t Follow Haters and Liars

I liked this sign:

Truth does not mind being questioned.

A lie does not like being challenged.

This seems like truth to me!

People who push an agenda and their propaganda never like to discuss it or answer questions about it. It’s usually prejudice in some way and they just want to ram it down people’s throats.

Questioning and shedding light on things that don’t seem right is part of our moral and civic duty.

Of course, the haters and liars would rather that we just accept the falsehoods they are peddling like stupid sheep who blindly follow them down the road to perdition. 😉

Mr. Golden Sun

There’s nothing like the hot sun.

Too bright to look at it.

It enlightens our whole world.

The warm glowing sun is life.

Cold empty darkness is death.

Light drives out the dark.

We need more light in this world. 😉
